I had hopes of a better day than yesterday, and I only mean that in respect to my dreadful driving experience yesterday.
The Clare Valley is inland in the North Eastern corner of South Australia, it is a grape growing district of note with more than 40 vineyards. The wineries lie along a narrow 40 kilometre corridor, between Auburn and Clare. The country side is rolling green hills with neat lines of grape vines stripped across them, a beautiful backdrop. We started slowly by making a pilgrimage to the vineyards of our favourite wines Taylor’s Winery. We had some great tasting and bought some old vintages of their red wines for our cellar.
We went back to the township of Clare to have a long pub lunch. The pub we choose is located in the centre of town with the restaurant a nice cool atrium , it was 34 degrees out side and we had no incentive to go back to our warm tent.
First occupied in 1833 but people searching for copper, Clare is a beautiful town, with predominance of 19th century stone buildings. A very wonderful and peaceful place to be.
