Feels like growing up in the 50’s

We finally managed to drag ourselves out of bed around 8.30 and after breakfast we headed into the shop to buy the necessary for our evening meal. While we were standing at the counter in the shop the power went off. This meant we had to leave our veggie shopping until later, the weighing machine wouldn’t work, it was electric.

After shopping we went for a bike ride around the island, this included a trip to Ned’s beach and a ride around most of the shops and streets. There were lots of people around even though the Island is very old fashion country; there was just no shortage of people.

I remember shops like this when I was growing up in Christchurch in the 1950’s wooden floors, wooden shelves like bookshelves and boxes stack all around the floors, with little sign of order. They stocked all sorts of things that I had long stopped seeing in shops on mainland Australia.
